The Goodman Brief

Practical guides on commercial finance. Written for business owners, not for bankers.

Most of what gets written about business finance is written for people who already understand it. It assumes familiarity with products, processes, and terminology that most business owners have never had reason to learn.

That creates a problem. If you do not understand how the market works, you cannot make properly informed decisions about the finance your business takes on. And the consequences of a poorly informed decision, the wrong product, the wrong lender, the wrong cost, can follow a business for years.

The Goodman Brief exists to close that gap.

These guides are written from over 20 years of experience arranging commercial finance for UK businesses. They cover the things I find myself explaining most often to business owners who are trying to navigate a market that is not always straightforward or transparent.

They are not sales documents. They will tell you when a product is not right for a business as readily as when it is. They will explain how the broker market works, including the parts of it that do not work in your interest. And they will give you the information you need to ask better questions before you commit to anything.

If after reading something here you want to talk about your own situation, my email is paul@goodmancorporate.com. I read everything personally.

The Guides

1. Why your broker's commission matters more than you think2. The funding options most SME owners have never been told about3. Why invoice finance beats a loan for a growing business4. Before you borrow anything, answer these three questions5. Funding for furniture manufacturers: what works and what does not6. Hotel finance: getting the sequencing right7. Funding for High Street Businesses: What Is Available and How to Use It Properly
