Breedon House Group

A 24-nursery group needed £9.1 million to invest in its facilities.

Its incumbent bank wasn't the right fit. We found a lender who was.

The Situation

Breedon House Group is one of the Midlands' most established childcare providers. Founded in 1988 by Margaret Mason who was awarded an OBE for her services to early years education the business has grown to operate 24 nurseries across the region, caring for more than 2,350 children from six weeks to five years old.

Sixteen of those nurseries held an Ofsted 'Outstanding' rating. The group's long-term goal was to achieve that rating across all 24 locations and to do so, they needed to invest meaningfully in their facilities.

The Problem

The funding requirement was significant: £9.1 million to refurbish existing nurseries, develop new space, and fund the continued growth of the business. Their existing banking relationship was not positioned to deliver what the business needed at this stage of its development.

Finding the right lender required more than a market search. It required a lender who understood the childcare sector, took the time to understand the business properly, and could structure a facility that matched the group's long-term ambitions not just its immediate requirements.

What We Did

We introduced the deal to Lloyds Bank Commercial Banking and worked closely with their team to present the business in a way that reflected its true strength its track record, its Ofsted ratings, its community relationships, and its clear and credible growth plan.

The objective was not simply to secure funding. It was to find a banking partner who would invest in understanding the business and support it properly over the long term.

The Outcome

Breedon House Group secured a £9.1 million facility from Lloyds Bank. The funding is being used to refurbish the Hathern and Syston nurseries and develop additional capacity at its Plumtree site.

Adrian Mason, Operations Director at Breedon House Group, said: "We've been a family-run business since 1988 and have grown from a single nursery in Long Eaton to an award-winning group with 24 locations across the Midlands. The funding from Lloyds Bank will be invaluable in helping us to achieve our long-term ambition of obtaining Outstanding for all of our nurseries."

A business with 35 years of trading history, and a clear investment plan should not have to struggle to access growth finance. In this case, the issue was not the business it was finding the right lender with the right sector understanding. That is exactly the gap a good broker should close.
